During Reading Week a group of Year 2 Graphic Design students took the opportunity to have a tour and guide through the offset litho process courtesy of Ian Wilcox and his print team at The Print Centre in Southampton. We are lucky at WSA as part University of Southampton to have access to our own in-house commercial printer. Ian generously showed student through the process from pdf. imposition, trapping, and digital proofs to producing colour separation plates and printing the four layers of colour on different stocks. The students were able to see their designed 8pp collated, saddle stitched and trimmed. This was an invaluable experience for any graphic design student /graphic designer to gain knowledge about professional production processes and we hope to return again soon.
