Following on from the 1st years successful location drawing project in Winchester, Yr 1 Illustration had to prepare a special ‘Show & Tell’ for the rest of the group. The students had to present 5 images / things / ideas that inspired them and 5 images / things / that did not, as well as bring in a book, an object and an image. This day was not only about getting to know each other but also getting them to think about how character can be developed through objects and belongings.
This neatly led onto the students writing a backstory for their alter ego, aka an exaggerated version of their own persona. From this they then had 1 day to transform themselves into this character.
The following monday it was into the photography studio to photograph each other. With each student considering how their character would hold themselves, how they should be shot and how they would dance. As you can see below there were some hugely successful outcomes, including a plant cube, a giant silver egg, a time traveller and a skateboarding moose named Pancho, to name a few.
